Peter Eastgate from Denmark won the 2008 WSOP Main Event and took home $9,152,416. Outside of the lopsided prize pool structure that gave Jamie Gold his $12 million prize in 2006, this was the largest amount of money any Main Event winner has ever won. With poker still growing at a fantastic rate outside of the US, the 2009 WSOP looks to top last years numbers. Do you have your seat yet?

Pokerstars WSOP Frequent Player Point Satellites

Starting for as little as 40 Frequent Player Points (FPP’s), players can have a legitimate shot at winning a seat. Turn 40 Frequent Player Points into a free seat into the 4,000 FPP weekly satellite tournament where at least 3 players will win a 2009 WSOP prize package. Several of the 40 FPP satellite tournaments run every day, and there is no limit to how many of them you can play.

For 400 Frequent Player Points, players can play in a similar satellite to the 40 FPP satellite, except it’s 10 times easier to qualify. One out of every ten players wins a seat into the 4,000 FPP weekly satellite tournament instead of 1 in 100. This gives players a very good chance to win their seat without any cash out of pocket. Like the 40 FPP satellites, the 400 FPP satellites are run several times per day.

Players can also choose to buy directly into the 4,000 FPP weekly WSOP satellite tournaments. Held at 16:00 ET every Saturday, 3 seats to the 2009 WSOP Main Event are guaranteed to be given away.

To play in the Pokerstars FPP satellite tournaments, players must download the Pokerstars software and open a real-money account. Play in real-money cash games and tournaments to earn Frequent Player Points that you can use for entry. Before you go to Pokerstars, make sure you have a Pokerstars Promo Code to get a bonus of 100% up to $50 on your first deposit.

Pokerstars WSOP Steps Tournaments

Pokerstars is offering players a fun way to earn their seat into the 2009 WSOP via Steps tournaments. If you aren’t familiar with how Steps tournaments work, they are essentially a ladder where players move up levels until they get to Step 6 where seats into the Main Event are awarded. Steps tournaments are 10 player, single table sit-n-go tournaments. What makes Steps tournaments so much fun is the amount of action players get.

In every Step, the top 2 players win a seat for the next level. Starting at Step 2, no less than the top 5 players either move up to the next level or return at another level. So, after Step 2, the first goal for every player should be to at least make it into the top 5 and stay in the Steps without having to come up with more cash out of pocket.

Players can enter the Steps tournaments at any level they choose. Step 1 has a buy-in cost of $7.50 or 500 FPP’s. Check out Pokerstars for more information about the 2009 WSOP Steps tournaments.

Pokerstars WSOP Satellite Tournaments – Cash Buy-Ins

For players with more cash than Frequent Player Points, there are tons of cash satellites that run 24/7. With direct buy-ins ranging from $2 – $1,050, players can choose from any type of satellite they could possibly want. Cash buy-in satellites come in a variety of tournament structures including turbos, super-turbos, shootouts, freezeouts, rebuys….you name it.
