Michael Phelps admits to smoking

It has been all over the news and worth a quick story here on Poker News Team. As you have already heard, Michael Phelps has admitted to smoking pot after photos started appearing on the Internet. Phelps has been a huge public figure since he won a record amount of Gold Medals at the 2008 Olympic Games.

He was unable to deny the picture of him smoking on a bong, and has already made several public statements apologizing for his actions. Here is his official statement:

“I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

Phelps who has several multi-million dollar endorsement deals is now facing serious scrutiny because he is considered a “role model” to kids. This is not the first incident that has haunted Phelps, he has a DWI on his record and spent last year at the WSOP partying with several friends. He reportedly got very drunk at the WSOP on several occasions.

The bottom line is that Phelps is a young kid that has been made to work non-stop since he was young to achieve Olympic glory and now he is trying to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He is young, rich, and ready to relax and act his age. Everyone makes mistakes and people need to cut the kid some slack!
